Sarah Jane Adventures Series 2 Coming Soon!
July 24, 2008
Popular childrens Doctor Who spin-off, The Sarah Jane Adventures has got a brand new series coming soon! A particular favourite of mine, SJA follows the adventures of former companion of the Doctor’s, Sarah Jane Smith, as she battle aliens and defends the Earth. She is helped on her adventures by her super-smart son Luke, and his friends Maria Jackson and Clyde Langer, as well as Mr. Smith, a high-tech super computer and K-9, a robot dog. The trailer for Series 2, coming Autumn 2008, is below:
What can we deduce from this? Well, we know that Sarah, Luke, Clyde and Maria are back with a new friend, a girl. With a bit of research on the Doctor Who Wiki, I learnt that she is a character called Rani Chandra. But can we trust the Internet. Yes. In an article in my issue 398 of Doctor Who Magazine (DWM), Phil Ford, who is a writer for SJA confirms that a character called Rani will be in this series. I don’t really know if another character is necassary, but I’m sure the SJA team will make it work. But Rani should get any fans of classic Doctor Who’s brains working. The Sixth and Seventh Doctors faced a renegade Time Lady called the Rani- is she connected to this new character?
Another thing we can deduce from this episode is that sontarans will be in a story. From the Doctor Who Wiki (DWW), it seems that they will be an episode called “The Last Sontaran”. Is this sontaran the only one that survived the destruction of the Tenth Sontaran Battle Fleet in The Poison Sky (DW4.5)? DWW also states that this episode will feature Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, head of UNIT in the days of the classic series. “The Brig” has met the First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth and Seventh Doctors and has helped him to defeat the Cybermen, Omega and other recurring villains. He is considered by many to be a companion of the Doctor’s, although he has never actually travelled with the Doctor in the TARDIS. Anyway, enough of his life story, the Brig is, according to DWW, in The Last Sontaran, which is, according to DWW, the first episode of Series 2. However, I beg to differ! My issue of DWM seems to say that the Brigadier will be in the finale- facing some old foes. These old foes could be the sontarans, so perhaps The Last Sontaran is, in fact, the finale of SJA? Or maybe the Brig will appear in more than one story? Only time and space will tell…
We can also learn about some of the other monsters that will be featured in Series 2. The trailer shows a graske, which has appeared in SJA before (SJA1.7&8). We also see a freaky clown, presumably the monster in Day of the Clown, episode 2 of series 2. We also see a man covered in weird blue veins, which is surely a monster and a man in a white suit, who could be a villain.
I was intruiged to find out more about Series 2, so I searched for spoilers on YouTube. I found pictures of Samantha Bond, who played Mrs. Wormwood, the villain in Invaison of the Bane (SJA1.X). Whether she will play the same character remains to be seen, but DWW claim she will reprise her role as Mrs. Wormwood and be an ally of the sontarans.
One thing’s for sure… this series is going to be a blast! Since it is coming out in “Autumn”, I expect it come out sometime in September. Hopefully. Probabally. I can’t wait!
DWM 398: Doctor Who Magazine Issue #398 came out yesterday and I got a copy today. This issue is available in four different covers, which together feature all twenty of the principal cast members in the Series 4 finale. You can collect these and when you put them together in a line, they join up to form one big picture- how cool! I got the cover with the Doctor, Donna, Sylvia and Wilf. It’s also got Harriet Jones at the top. Inside, Russel T. Davie discusses how the Doctor Who team re-acted at the news of his departure and what sort of precautions he has to make so he doesn’t ruin the Moff’s plans in Production Notes. There’s an interview with David Tennant, Billie Piper, Freema Ageyman, Catherine Tate, John Barrowman, Gareth David-Lloyd, Eve Myles, Penelope Wilton, Jaqueline King (I’ve met her- got her autograph!), Bernard Cribbins, Noel Clarke, Camille Coduri, Adjoah Andoh, Elizabeth Sladen, Tommy Knight, John Leeson, Alexander Armstrong, Nicholas Briggs, Julian Bleach and David Tennant again who play or are the voice of, respectivley, The Doctor, Donna, Martha, Rose, Jack, Ianto, Gwen, Harriet, Sylvia, Wilf, Mickey, Jackie, Francine (that’s Martha’s mum), Sarah-Jane, Luke, K-9, Mr. Smith, Dalek Caan, Davros and Doctor #2. Longest sentance ever? I think so. The magazine also has news on the Christmas special, the Proms Cutaway and the Brig’s return. It also concludes the sycorax comic, The Widow’s Curse, and has a survey on Series 4 of Doctor Who. Anyone that does this survey and votes for the best bits of Series 4, is in with the chance of winning a prize, as three voters will be chosen and recieve a free “Davros” DVD boxset, which has five stories featuring Davros and various Doctors. I will definatly fill this out!
Finally… I will now be posting about Doctor Who news and will do a review of DWM magazine every month when a new issue comes out. I will also do news abotu SJA and Torchwood, the latter being a programme my parents won’t let me watch- but I am trying to convince them to let me watch it.
Good night, readers*
*Although I doubt anyone actually bothered to read all 976 words in this post.
